My son's dad died in the pen

my sons real father never wanted anything to do with him but his older brother and sister always did. back in 2010 my son found out his dad was in the pen on a life sentence. a few weeks later he received a letter from him but before my son had a chance to write back was told by his older brother that their dad had passed away.. now my son in doing 5 yrs and is wanting me to help him find more info on his dads death because he just don't believe it was a heart attack. so can anyone tell me how to find more info?

I'm so sorry.
It well could have been a heart attack.They are under constant stress and the diets are full of salt and other awful things,with little real nutritional value.
You might be able to request a copy of the coroners report if you were married or have his parents ask for one.
I hope the letter your son got was of some solice.

Death records etc are public records. Google for vital statistics office where he passed call find out cost of doc. U can dl request from online usually. I do genealogy is how I know. List urself as his wife or...use ur sons name as the requester. Some states demand kinship some don't. Ask what u do.to get a death record and the requirements. Don't say who ur looking for. Another thing...if u know where he's buried if u call the cemetery they have internment records they'll usually give u the info. Sometimes u luck out they have death records too. Pose it as a genealogy question. All the numbers etc can be found online I've done.this many times.
