FMC Devens is segregated into two units (1.) the medical camp and (2.) the actual lockdown prison.

The medical camp provides a complete array of health services to afflicted prisoners. Inmates housed in the medical camp are allowed free movement throughout the facility and the mood is generally relaxed. Violence is not tolerated in the medical camp. Those exhibiting violent behavior are transfered to the actual lockdown prison. I've heard the expression "going behind the wall at Devens" means you are being removed from the medical camp.

Per my lawyer, effective July 10, 2004 the mission at FMC Devens has changed. Prior to this change, the mission at Devens was to provide drug rehab treatment through their RDAP program. Beginning July 10, 2004, Devens' mission is specialty treatment for sex offenders who will be segregated in a special housing unit (SHU) behind the wall.

Standard prison rules apply at Devens: don't cause any trouble, keep quiet & to yourself and you'll be fine.

There are a lot of posts regarding Devens in the Federal bulletin board => check 'em out for more info.

Sorry I did not see this post prior till now....
In the Federal Prison Forum...we have a detailed post offered by a member who served time at this facility. You can find it at the following link:

http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/sho...ght=FMC+Devens

For more information on the Federal Prison System....please check out PTO's Federal Prison Forum area that can be found at this link:

http://www.prisontalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=186

There are a few more post if you use the search feature and "FMC DEVENS" in the search field. The link above...was the most informative that I found.

I just left Devens camp, after 10 month stay. ZakkinBoston has it right with two major exceptions:

1) FMC Devens Camp is NOT a "medical camp". It is far from it, if even one has ever existed. No "complete array of health services to afflicted prisoners". So untrue. Period.

2) Sex offenders (which are not allowed in the camp) are NOT "segregated in a special housing unit (SHU) behind the wall", they dominate the main compound, walk the yard, live in general housing...

Default Visiting FMC Devens

Hello PTO

I just got back today from my first visit with my father at Devens. It was a wonderful time. I didn’t realize I had missed him so.

So let me tell u what it was like.....

As u are going there (on Patton Rd) you will first come to the medical part (I think that is what it is)...that is not what u want. U want to keep going until u see a huge building on your left. It is set off the road but just know that it is not the first FMC Devens building u come to, if it isn’t large and gray/white...its not the right building.

When u first go in the desk is right there. U have a restroom and some lockers to your left. U need to fill out a form and give them your ID. If you have anything that u are unable to take in with you they will give u a locker key.

Hours are 8am to 2:30pm fri- sun, it could be more days but I don’t know. They did tell me to get there by 9:15am on sat or I wouldn’t be able to see my father until after 10:15am. Something to the fact of moving guys around. I do not know if that is every day or just a sat thing.

Once they are ready for u the CO has u empty your pockets on the counter....take your shoes off and place them next to the walk thru scanner thing (I am very technical )....if u don’t buzz he tells u to place your shoes on the belt ahead.

It is up to you if u get your change and cash 1st or pick up your shoes first...I was nervous the first time doing it, I think I stammered for a few minutes trying to decide which to pick up first! I saw all the regulars with a clear bag with their money in it- next time I will do that, so that way I won’t have to empty my pockets.

Than u get a stamp on your hand, u need to check your hand to be sure it is there ( or it is a pain in the ass to everyone involved ).

Once the shoes go thru , u are allowed to put them on. It sounds stupid in saying so, but trust me- nothing that I tell u is stupid. When u get there, u get really nervous and u forget the littlest things; i.e. how to speak when spoken to and how to tie your shoes.

They have u line up against the wall and wait until everyone is thru, hopefully you will be with someone that has visited b4, if so just follow them.

Now u go thru a series of hoops and mazes to get to the visiting room. Just remember to stay in a straight line and listen to what the CO says. Oh ya, at the first place where u have to place your hand to get your stamp read...lay your hand flat. In the visiting room, turn it side ways. Just a little tidbit that really did take up time from ppl not doing it right. You could tell the CO's were getting pissing because the ppl just could figure out how to turn their hand ! It was amusing.

BTW, if u forget your money in the car and want to go back to get it once u are in the visiting room....forgetting it...they won’t let u. I forgot my money one day, and even though I traveled all the way from ClevelandOH they still said my visit would be over. Actually the one lady CO did see if they would make an exception, but I was declined.

SOOOOO....if anyone wants any more info, please feel free to pm me and I will get back to you ASAP.

Hugs and Love

Talking I finally saw him!

I finally got to visit! It took a while because of my work schedule..Last Thursday I finished work in half the day and on my way home I noticed I'd passed my exit and kept going! I shocked him and myself. It wasn't so bad. Just the waiting to see him. I didn't know there would be a bit of a wait while my information was put into a computer. I only had him for about an hour but it was worth it! Met some other wives/girlfriends, and family members of other inmates who guided me along! One thing...don't wear a long or big coat..it's got to be x-rayed too. Wasted time! All and all, it was PERFECT. Especially the look on his face after not seeing him for over a year. lol..I thought we'd both drop. A good thing..I'm going back for as long as they'll let me stay on Saturday after Thanksgiving. ..I love you sounds soooo much better face to face. I'm a happy girl. Thanks for all of your support and putting up with my hyperness (word?) If I can help someone get there ride....let me know. I'm in CT. and just drive straight up, I can stop along the way. Just ask, we all need help and if I can. I will.

Bye,
See ya after Saturday! Pray for no snow. Please..

Talking Thanks!

He's just as excited, and called me two extra times this week. Humm, absense does make the heart grow fonder lol. Biggest news: His Mother who's never liked anyone he's ever been with, loves me! That alone was an accomplishment I'm proud of. And all I had to do was be myself and stand by him. Finally my strangness is appreciated!

Default News about and for FMC, Devers, Ma.

My dad is in Devers, and I do not know anything about the place other than it is a medical institution, and far from me. I will talk with anyone about this place, and maybe someone might get him a message from me.

You can send letters and cards. All other reading books and mags need to come from Amazon or Borders, or places like that. They need to come from a source. Probably so they you cant put stuff in them...who knows.
I'll post more later, having a funeral now...will be back in a few days.

Question FMC Devens help

my best friend just started an 8 month stay this past Tuesday. Anyone know the address to write to inmates, how to address the envelope, etc. Is there a limit to the number of letters they can receive? Can you send pictures? I am new to this, and any help or any information about FMC Devens rules would be greatly appreciated.
