Default Where Do We Start?

My ex-husband has been in Edgefield Federal Prison for 10 years. He is set to be released sometime in Februry to a New Orleans half-way house. Our three chidren have not see him in 10 years and don't remember him. They are now 14, 16 1nd 18 years old. Needless to say, he has not paid one penny of child support and the children have gone without many things throughout their lives. I want the children and him to develope a close relationship. Where should I begin?

Discussing with him your wishes, and make sure he wants the same!

Ultimately, it will be on him to develop the relationship and maintian it, with his children. So, make sure he want this, and is willing to try! Of course, any effort is to be commended, in my opinion, but something tells me he may meet much resistance in establishing himself in their lives!

GOOD LUCK, and may everthing workout for the best...best for the kids!

YES, I guess my boys might be very resistant. My girl is the oldest and has maintained a relationship by mail. Well, I guess it will be up to him to make the effort. Thanks for the feed back

I really hope it works out for your kids. You might want to look around the "Raising Children With Parents In Prison" forum for some advice and experience. Good Luck!

My man is in Williamsburg
Its so hard. I am all the way in Montana, so obviously thats a long haul to visit, and he doesnt want us to go all that way to visit for an hour or so and then leave. He says it would make it even harder on him. He was in prison here in Montana, then moved to Florence, CO, and now to SC.

My brother is being moved to FCI Williamsburg and I am trying to find out the conditions of the prison and what other inmates are saying about it. If anyone could help that has a loved one there I would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!

My husband left there in December. He was there for 18 months. They inmates there seem to be good people. He still talks to many of them. It is pretty calm and he never had a prob with any Officers. They get away with alot of stuff. They rent movies for them on the weekends and they seem to have alot to do. They also let them stay up late for any thing big that comes on TV such as sports or BET awards or stufff like that. His friend called the other day and said someone had been stabbed in the neck but it was a very isolated incident. ( the two men had problems the whole time i think) He was at the medium facility not the camp. Hope it helps. Ask me anything else you can think of.

Default Man in MacDougall, SC.

I am having some difficulty trying to navigate this site so I hope I am putting this post in the right place. Anyway, my daughter's dad was sent to MacDougall yesterday after 2 mos. at Kirkland R&E. I had just received a letter last week that I am being denied visitation because of a former drug conviction and the fact that I am not immediate family. I got the impression this applied to visiting him in any of the SC facilities which would mean I can't see him for the next 3 years. Does anyone know anything about this? The facility is only 2 hours from my home and I would like to be able to take his daughter to see him but I fear this may never be an option. Any info. appreciated.

Just wanted to let you know that I am in the same situation right now--tough spot to be in. You are correct, you can not visit anywhere currently at the state level. I personally had no problems at county. I am not even actually "convicted", just have a "pending" case. Someone else may have to take his daughter, but it's worth a shot to right a letter to the warden, I assume? Best of luck to you, you aren't alone!
